From the 80s to the 2020s, there is always a time and need for imbecile slapstick. Brainless to offensive, the gags levitate the belly to chuckles we once released as children.
My dad raised me on Airplane! and Naked Gun, so who better to watch this reboot than with him.
“Reboot” might be this relentless comedy’s only weakness, but where you miss Leslie Nielsen, Liam Neeson rightfully (and shamelessly) upholds the legacy.
I don’t want to spoil any of the gags, but you won’t know what I’m talking about when I mention my favorites: the Bloody Mary tourniquet, the windshield, anything involving cheap, 7-Eleven coffee cups, and the following exchange…
“Do you expect something foul?”
“No, I don’t think a chicken could have done this.”
It’s all so lowbrow stupid, and the lightweight of it all is such a relief. Liam Neeson and his gravelly over-voice are tremendous, and Pamela Anderson is lovable as the new femme fatale. Be on the lookout for some quick but endearing cameos!
My dad and I roared with laughter next to theatre patrons doing the same thing, and there were touching references to the original.
And there was a snowman.
The Naked Gun (2025) ****
It’s crazy to think about Liam Neeson in a comedy, but it sounds like he’s terrific here.

I thought I was going to hate it. But, his dry charm worked really well here. I was pleasantly surprised. Worth another go too!

OK, now I have to see this one. Maybe I was just holding out out of respect for the original films, but this sounds like awesome fun.

Hilarious! I knew it would be when I saw the teaser. Liam Neeson has the same deadpan comedic chops that Leslie Nielsen had. They finally remembered that a parody needs to have broad appeal with different comedy styles that leave you guessing what jokes come next.

So glad you liked it too. Yes, I felt on edge for every smart-dumb or dumb-dumb retort made by Liam. I’d give anything for a random hand-dispensing coffee at any time of day too!

Hard to imagine Liam Neeson in a comedy, but your account might persuade me to give it a go. Like the chicken joke. I reckon the line was delivered by a hardboiled detective.

And with an American accent no less!

I went out with a friend to watch it nearby on Sunday. The movie had Spanish subtitles, but that didn’t dull the roar of laughter from the Spanish-speaking audience in the cinema. It had me in tears at times—especially that blinds-closed threesome dog scene. I didn’t even recognise Pamela Anderson, but she was brilliant, especially in that singing bit. So brazen – and she pulled it off, as did Neeson. Very refreshing to see Hollywood finally make a film that takes the piss in this fragile, virtue-signalling world. I’m going back Thursday to watch it with the kids. I’m with you—4 out of 5 stars. Cheers man

Amen, Amen! Oh, man, that infrared scene was gut bursting! And, I liked the more postmodern humor in the snow man that takes a sinister turn. I think of gags that went by so fast but also deserve applause, like the “cold case” room and the Halloween “Spirit” sign that went over the police station front door. Gosh, I needed this movie. I’m so glad you liked it too! School officially starts today. Send me good vibes, buddy!

Yes, that Infrared scene! One for the ages. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard for such a prolonged stretch. I agree—there were so many gags happening in the background too, which makes me want to watch it again and catch what I missed the first time. Same here, friend—I really needed this movie.
Sending only good vibrations your way for the start of school. Giddyup!

I never thought of Liam Neeson as this! But it sounds like it works. I loved those movies. Have you ever seen Police Squad? It was a short ran 80s TV show with this humor you might be interested in.
Leslie Nielsen starred in it. Well I want to see this!

Yes! My dad raised me on Police Squad! And, I didn’t think Neeson would work either, but he’s so deadpan, it comes off like the slapstick for today. Lots of laughs!
